Work in Progress Wednesday

It's a short week here and it is messing me up.  I'll be a day behind all week long.  It was nice to have a long weekend and I got lots of knitting done.  The fronts of my grey sweater are complete and the short sleeves are started.

I also have been working on an article for Cast On magazine and had to do a lot of swatches for examples.

The other work in progress I have to mention of is a bit different.  Today is my 20th wedding anniversary.  Marriages are always works in progress, but this is one that gives me joy every day.

Work in progress Wednesday

I've been feeling a little bit under the weather the last few days.  Getting better but not 100%.  My grey sweater is coming along.  The back is done and the two front pieces are maybe halfway, well not quite halfway.

Okay, maybe not feeling as well as I thought.  Typing is more effort than I thought.  After a little rest, I'm finishing this off and heading over to Tami's to check out the other projects.

Finished Object Friday

Good Morning!  Yeah it is Friday.  I'm excited to have several weeks with something to show.  This is Powerful Pleats by Gwen Bortner.  When the last Knitter's magazine came out, I fell in love with this skirt.  To the point where I ordered the yarn on line that night.  I have never done that before.  It is done in Claudia Handpaint Linen Lace.

I have taken several of Gwen's classes at TKGA and she is an awesome teacher (great handouts) and wonderful person.  This yarn is really awesome - very fine so not as scratchy or difficult to work with as some linens.  The body is done in a technique called Navajo plying so it is tripled and prevents color pooling in unattractive ways.  The bottom ruffle is done in two strands held together.  These pictures were done on Mother's Day but I also wore it this week to work and it held up great.  No bagging or putting a seat in it.

This is my reason for celebrating Mother's Day!  I had on heels or else he would have been towering over me.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Good morning.  I do have a project going on now, besides the unending socks.  It doesn't look like much now but it is the back of a sweater.  I picked the yarn to match a skirt that you will hear more about on Friday.  It is in cotton, so tension is a challenge but so far so good.

I've been reading Amy Herzog's Knit to Flatter and find there is a lot of good information in there.  I think you can tell from the picture that the back has waist shaping with vertical darts.  I'm used to doing it at the sides, so I'm going to be interested to see how this looks.  She has some very interesting techniques.  Hopefully in the not to distant future it will be ready for a Friday.

Also, just in the category of just for fun, here is a picture of my husband trying to fit my small Norwegian sweater on our cat.  This was not the cat's idea of fun.  She is also not the smallest cat around so we could only get one sleeve on her.

It lasted all of about half a second.  How on earth do people get dogs to wear sweaters?

Finished Object Friday

It has been awhile since I have had a finished object, and I'm going to be on a roll for the next few weeks.  Last weekend our guild had Beth Brown Reinsel in to do the Fana Cardigan.

I have done a lot of Fair Isle but hadn't done the Norwegian techniques for steeking - which require using a sewing machine to stabilize the steels.  I learned two big things this weekend - Norwegian Purl which I am very intrigued with and think will help my tension, and that using a sewing machine gives me heart palpitations.  Give me Scottish construction techniques any day.  But the cardigan turned out very cute and we had a great weekend with Beth, who is just a wonderful teacher.  I'm taking her twined knitting class this summer and am very excited about that.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Okay, so it has been awhile since I have posted.  And I've gone from having three or four projects at a time to having just one.
These Mock Cable Socks look great but have honestly not been my favorite thing to knit.  If I do a couple of rounds per month, that is a lot.  But I have at least turned the heels and with nothing else to work on, hopefully it will speed up.

Since I last posted, I've taken a couple of classes.  One was with Franklin Habit on photographing knitwear.  I learned a ton.  And I do think my pictures are better - colors are at least truer and they are clearer.  These are hard to get the detail of the mock cable, but I tried.
