Trip to the Cooper Hewitt Museum in NYC
Yesterday we came up to NYC for a little time off. We went to the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum which had two amazing exhibits. The first is Set in Style - the Jewelry of Van Cleef & Arpels. Totally amazing jewelry and so interesting to see their influence on designers that we think are innovative today. http://www.cooperhewitt.org/exhibitions/set-in-style. The jewelry is unbelievable. But there is a second exhibit upstairs on Sonia Delaunay called Color Moves: Art and Fashion. I had never heard of her before but she had a tremendous sense of color and how to use it in innovative way. They have two garments she made on exhibit, one a coat/dress made for a famous film star of the 20's and 30's. I'm not sure how she made these - looks woven but by hand. The colors were unbelievable. I couldn't find a picture of it anywhere on the web so you have to go see it - but fast it closes tomorrow. The jewelry exhibit goes through July 4th.
